Leveraging Networks
Question: How strategically do you cultivate and utilize a diverse range of network connections, including both close relationships (strong ties) and broader acquaintances (weak ties), to gather information, mobilize support, and bridge different groups?
How did you score yourself in this area in your self assessment? Use this image of what great look like to help you plan steps to develop yourself.
Low ~ My network is largely composed of close, long-standing contacts (strong ties), and I seldom make efforts to build or leverage connections with diverse individuals or groups (weak ties) or to connect separate clusters of people.
Medium ~ I recognize the potential benefits of a diverse network and occasionally tap into weak ties or attempt to bridge groups, but this is often reactive or not part of a systematic networking strategy.
High ~ I proactively build, maintain, and leverage a diverse network of strong and weak ties, strategically fostering connections that provide access to new information and resources, enable collaboration across different groups, and build bridging capital to support change initiatives.
